  • Actor-Inspired Element: During rehearsals for one episode, Arthur Lowe came up with a bit of comedy on the spot before saying they don't need writers, much to the chagrin of series writer/creator John Stevenson.
  • Hostility on the Set: John Stevenson, who wrote and created the series, didn't have the best relationship with his star, Arthur Lowe, who thought he was above Stevenson.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: Despite existing in ITV's archives, the series has never been shown since 1972, released on VHS or DVD, or made available on any streaming services.
  • Wag the Director: Arthur Lowe had the scripts rewritten to remove most of his co-star's funny lines.
  • What Could Have Been: Hermione Baddeley was at first cast as Mrs. Basket, but she left the role in response to Arthur Lowe having her laughs taken out. In the end, Patricia Hayes was cast instead.
  • You Look Familiar: The 12th Earl of Clogborough from "End of the Peer" and Rupert Fitzbasket from "A Chip Off the Old Block" were both played by Richard Hurndall.
