Trivia / The Jesus Lizard

Go To

  • Channel Hop: The Jesus Lizard started out with indie label Touch and Go Records. In the mid-1990s, after the success of Nirvana and Green Day led major labels to seek out Alternative Rock groups, they moved to Capitol Records for a couple of albums.
  • Creator Backlash: The band has openly admitted to hate the album Down. They claim that while the songs are good, Steve Albini's production made it sound like poop.
  • Write Who You Know:" "Mouth Breather" is based off an incident between Steve Albini and Slint/The Breeders drummer and Cloudcuckoolander Britt Walford: Albini had asked Walford to house-sit for him for a few weeks, and returned to find a broken down front door and toilet water leaking into the basement where his musical equipment and drums were stored - Walford had broken the door down himself after getting drunk and losing the keys, and had also broken the toilet. Hence "I leave my home/I leave it in the care of a friend/and in the basement, I find raining piss". Naturally, the ending of the last verse, "and in the kitchen, I find my friend deceased", was an exaggeration added for the sake of Black Comedy. The refrain of the song also comes verbatim from Albini.
