Trivia / The Goon

Go To

  • Creator Backlash: Powell is very negative about his very earliest issues, considering the art to have been very poor and the humour too broad and silly. The TPB collecting them is called Rough Stuff and contains no less than four prefaces apologising for the quality. The final one is in comic format and has the Goon and Frankie themselves complaining about how they were drawn.
  • Development Hell: The teaser for the film was compiled in an effort to get funding for a full feature. Despite the internet generally agreeing that it's pretty damn awesome, they still don't have any yet. Eric Powell/Dark Horse and their fans are crossing their fingers, though and the Kickstarter to help fund a story reel to ship around to studios just might help.
    • As of 2016, the Kickstarter has ended but the film is still in the works. Deadpool director Tim Miller has been attached to it. It's possible that the success of Sausage Party may encourage studios to show interest in it.
    • In May 2019, 20th Century Fox (which, by that point had already been acquired by Disney) announced that they were putting the movie into development. However, nothing more has been said about it.
    • As of 2022, Tim Miller is still attached and it's heading to Netflix.
  • What Could Have Been: Before coming up with the Goon, Powell's original concept for a comic book was "Mog", which would've been about a young monster that was a "sort of a mix between a rat and gorilla" and attended school with human kids. Powell later revamped the concept so that Mog was instead an adult human/ogre hybrid exiled to Earth before abandoning the idea entirely and starting over with the Goon.
