Trivia / The Detective is Already Dead

  • Banned in China: As a result of Cover Corp's persona non grata status in China following the "Taiwan incident" in September 2020 and their subsequent exit from the Chinese market over the course of the remaining months of that year, Fubuki and Matsuri's cameo is stripped out of the bilibili simulcast of the third episode, along with the credits for that episode scrubbing any mention of the two hololive talents.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The novel took shape in several drafts that were wildly divergent from each other, some of them exclusively taking place in the main characters' school, with the only common factor among all of them being Kimihiko Kimizuka as the protagonist. In the last, most serious of those drafts, already named The Detective is Already Dead, Kimihiko was the sidekick of a quirky detective girl named Yui Saikawa that would be still alive, only with a terminal illness, which would give sense to the title. It was from there that author Nigoju built the final story with the Posthumous Character Siesta as the title girl, keeping the title yet having a different meaning.
    • When author Nigoju submitted the novel as a candidate to the Bunko contest, he was told it didn't resemble a light novel enough. Taking it to heart, he rewrote it putting in a lot of action, mysteries, romantic comedy and other typical light novel tropes. The character that received the unused name "Yui Saikawa" was an idol singer because Nigoju likes them and wanted to include one.
    • The real final draft still contained small changes. Nagisa's surname was originally Yunagi instead of Natsunagi, while the character that would be Charlotte (who appeared unnamed at the end of the volume) was conceived to be a full-blooded Japanese. The detail that she and Kimihiko knew each other from their past was also added later.
    • Originally, Siesta's role would end in the first volume, with the title becoming an Artifact Title, and the starring role would fall solely in Kimihiko, Natsunagi and Saikawa. However, she became such a popular character that it was decided she would keep appearing, so Nigoju added more flashbacks and the fragment of personality contained in Natsunagi to make it so.
    • Kimihiko was going to have the codename Kurokage ("Black Shadow"), but the publisher didn't like it. The author has declared he expects to use it some day, though.
    • Nigoju initially had no idea about how had Siesta exactly died, and it was not until the second volume that he thought about it. A first idea would be that she was killed by Chamaeleon, but he found it too lame.
