Trivia / The Brides of Dracula

• Dawson Casting: Meinster doesn't seem older (vampirism aside) than the early-20s girls he turns, but actor David Peel was 40 at the time.
• Scully Box: David Peel wore lifts in his shoes to make him the same height as Peter Cushing. Peel, according to his bio at the time, was 5 foot 10. Cushing was six feet tall.
• Wag the Director: The film was supposed to end with Van Helsing dispatching the vampires with an arcane magical ritual but Peter Cushing objected to it, feeling it was out of character. A different ending was made up in a hurry but the ritual idea was reused for The Kiss of the Vampire, which itself was originally meant to be a Dracula movie but got reworked into a standalone film.
• What Could Have Been:
  • Judging by the posters, it seemed the studio had jumped the gun before the story was fully fleshed out or before Christopher Lee refused to play Dracula again. The story seemed to looked like it was going to focus more on the charm school and involve more girls being bitten with Dracula orchestrating the whole proceeding.
  • The cheap looking bat that appears in the climax was a last-minute replacement for a more convincing and realistic model that got lost.
• Writing by the Seat of Your Pants: Changes were made to the script right before scenes were to be shot.
