• What Could Have Been:
  • Janeway's holonovel was originally supposed to have her as a Determined Homesteader on The Western frontier, but this concept was dropped as the outdoor location shooting would have been too expensive (and Kate Mulgrew refused to work with horses).
  • The Gothic romance novel that replaced it became an Aborted Arc and was never finished, even through an ending was written for it. Fans didn't like Captain Janeway as a governess, and given that the holonovel was spread over months of screening time they found it difficult to get involved in the story in the first place.
• You Look Familiar: Carolyn Seymour makes her fourth Trek (and first non-TNG) appearance as Mrs. Templeton, the housekeeper character of Janeway's holo-novel. She had previously portrayed Romulan Sub-Comander Taris in TNG Season 2's "Contagion", Malcorian scientist Mirasta Yale in Season 4's "First Contact", and Romulan Commander Toreth in Season 6's "Face Of The Enemy".
  • The same year as this episode, Thomas Dekker and Lindsey Haun costarred in Village Of The Damned.
