• Acting for Two: The main cast and their holodeck versions. Lucky boy Wil Wheaton mostly just had to sit there and eat pie in a silly outfit.
• Creator's Favorite Episode: LeVar Burton listed this episode among his favorites, along with "Elementary, Dear Data" and "Ship In A Bottle".
• First Appearance: For Lieutenant Reginald Barclay, aka "Reg." He would make a few more appearances in this series, and even stick around for Voyager.
• Playing Against Type: After years of being known for the extroverted H.M. "Howling Mad" Murdock, Dwight Schultz played Barclay, Murdock's polar opposite.
• Reality Subtext: Guinan speaking very supportively of Barclay to Geordi. Whoopi Goldberg had personally recommended Dwight Schultz to TNG's producers for any part that came along.
• What Could Have Been: According to the script, Barclay's full name was "Endicott Reginald Barclay III" before the first and middle names were switched around.
