Trivia / Squirm

Go To

  • Enforced Method Acting: The cast really are running for their lives when the tree falls through the house.
  • Inspiration for the Work: The film was inspired by an incident in Jeff Lieberman's childhood in which his brother fed electricity into a patch of earth, causing earthworms to surface.
  • Parody Retcon: Jeff Lieberman claimed the film was a "goof" movie and when Mystery Science Theater 3000 mocked it that "you can't goof a goof."
  • Star-Derailing Role: The only film role for R.A. Dow (Roger) and Fran Higgins (Alma).
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Picture it, friends: Kim Basinger as Geri. Martin Sheen as Mick. Sylvester friggin' Stallone as Roger. It very nearly happened. Allegedly.
    • Lieberman's original script called for the movie to be set in rural New England. A combination of unseasonably bad weather and budget restrictions resulted in production being diverted to Georgia, necessitating a last-minute rewrite of the script. By that point, most of the actors had already been cast, hence the blatantly fake Deep South accents.
