Trivia / Spectrobes

  • Completely Different Title: While the first game's English title is just a shortened version of its Japanese title, Kaseki Chou-Shinka SpectrobesTranslation, Beyond the Portals is called Chou Kaseki Monster Battle: Gekitotsu GalaxyTranslation and Origins is Kaseki Monster: SpectrobesTranslation.
  • Franchise Killer: Spectrobes: Origins was a commercial failure that sold less than half as many copies as the second game and barely a quarter of the sales of the original.
  • What Could Have Been: The initial pitch was much different than the game that emerged; artist/co-creator Fil Barlow originally intended it be for the PS3 instead of the Wii/DS, the focus was different (essentially collecting the Spectrobes to save the planet, as it wasn't their natural habitat and they were screwing up the local environment) and Jeena was supposed to be the main character (you could play as either Jeena or Rallen). Much to Barlow's ire, Disney promptly handed the names and little else over to a Japanese producer, who (to add insult to injury) excluded Barlow and co-creator Helen Maier from the game's production.
