Trivia / Space Ace

Go To

  • Descended Creator: As the game's producer and designer, Don Bluth voiced Borf as well as some background characters.
  • Marth Debuted in "Smash Bros.": Just like what happened with Dragon's Lair in Latin America, only the animated adaptation is known there as the game was never brought out in that region.
  • No Budget: Despite the game having double the budget of Dragon's Lair it still ran on a shoestring budget of $2.5 million, with Michael Rye reprising his role as narrator and most of the cast being voiced by the staff and crew with one example being Don Bluth voicing Borf despite that fact that he would have wanted Paul Shenar to voice Borf.
  • Referenced by... Samurai Jack, of all shows.
Scissorsmith: At the fork in the road, follow the rocky path! It will take you to the Dragon's Lair!
Jack: Where will the other one take me?
    Scissorsmith: Space Ace!
(cut to Jack's baffled face as a goofy sound effect plays)
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Paul Shenar would have lent his sonorous bass voice as Borf if they had a bigger budget but he was instead voiced by Don Bluth himself.
    • Originally Ace had to gradually gain his manhood throughout the game most likely at the end of it, but the idea was scrapped to appeal more to kids and teens who relate more to an adult.
      • Also his original name was Dex.
    • Originally, Bluth wanted Eddie Deezen to voice Dexter.note
