Trivia / Sorcerer Stabber Orphen

Go To

  • Acting for Two: Claiomh's regular voice actress for the 1998 series, Mayumi Iizuka, also voiced Constance Maggie in the drama CD series and video game.
  • Cross-Dressing Voices: Magic Rin is voiced by the female Omi Minami in the 1998 series.
  • Dueling Works: It's a late 90s anime about a powerful, hot-headed sorcerer protagonist with a cynical, snarky personality going on adventures with his band of followers, including a somewhat klutzy, sword-wielding love interest and a young, naive apprentice figure who has a lot to learn about life. All things considered, Sorcerous Stabber Orphen could pretty much be considered Slayers with genders completely reversed. The only thing missing in the party is a Zelgadis but Orphen basically already has that covered with his cynical Anti-Hero personality. The similarities between both series were such that they eventually had a Light Novel crossover on Dragon Magazine in 2005.
  • The Other Darrin:
    • The English dub of the Playstation 2 game featured a completely different cast than the dub of the 1998 TV series, as it was recorded in Los Angeles rather than Houston like the anime.
    • For the 2020 reboot:
      • Everyone besides Showtaro Morikubo (Orphen) was inevitably recast since the 1998 series was produced over 20 years before the reboot. For example, Majic Rin and Claiomh Everlasting, who were respectively played by Omi Minami and Mayumi Iizuka, are now voiced by Yūsuke Kobayashi and Rumi Ōkubo.
      • The same goes for the English release, where everyone besides David Matranga (Orphen) was recast since it was dubbed in Dallas rather than in Houston. In the case of Hardia, it was inevitable since his original English voice actor Randy Sparks died in 2011.
  • Remake Cameo: Takehito Koyasu, who voiced Flameheart in the original anime, voices Name in the second season of the 2020 reboot.
  • Role Reprise:
    • All of the Japanese voice actors from the 1998 TV series reprised their roles for the video game.
    • Showtaro Morikubo reprises his role as Orphen for the 2020 series and is the only surviving cast member to make a return.
    • In the English dub of the 2020 series, David Matranga (Orphen) reprises his role again from the 1998 series and is also the only surviving actor to return.
  • Studio Hop:
    • The original 1998 series was produced at J.C. Staff and the 2020 reboot was animated at Studio DEEN.
    • The 1998 anime's North American home media releases were initially handled by ADV Films, before eventually switching to Sentai Filmworks. Meanwhile, Funimation distributed the 2020 anime's North American releases.
