Trivia / Sons of the Desert

Go To

  • Completely Different Title: The film's French title is Les Compagnons de la Nouba, which more or less means "Companions of the Party". "Nouba" is a French slang for "(wild) party".
  • The Danza: Besides Stan and Ollie themselves, Charley is played by film comic Charley Chase.
  • Defictionalization: "Sons of the Desert" is the name of the official international Laurel and Hardy fan club, who reuse much of the group's iconography.
  • Recycled Script: This was a remake of their 1928 short We Faw Down and expanded using the idea of Ollie faking sickness from the short Be Big.
  • Throw It In!: Stan objects to going on to the roof in the rain because he doesn't want to catch "spumonia". As they are leaving the roof to climb down the drainspout, Hardy was supposed to repeat "spumonia," but instead said "ammonia", then quickly corrected himself. Director Seiter thought a mistake corrected by another mistake was funny, and left the line in as Hardy had said it.
  • What Could Have Been: In the original script, the parade scene was to have included an extended sequence of the boys causing mayhem as they participate in—and subsequently ruin—a bicycle procession. The scene was not used in the movie.
  • Working Title: The working title was Fraternally Yours, and the movie was eventually released in Europe under that name.
