- Older Than They Think: "The Duck Song" is based on an old joke about a duck walking into a bar asking for grapes. The joke is at least 50 years old, appearing in some form in Reader's Digest and other magazines. In the original joke, the bartender is far more hostile towards the duck after the initial encounter and offers a far more violent threat (nail his feet and/or beak to the bar) than the lemonade stand guy (glue to a tree) or corner store girl (taped to a wall) ever do. The intent was to soften the joke and make it family-friendly so that it would be enjoyable for kids.
