Trivia / Simple Samosa

Go To

  • Adored by the Network: Disney Channel India pushed this show quite a bit when it originally started airing, going as far as to give it contests on Facebook and Instagram before airing the first 12 episodes on the day of the show's premiere, and then proceeding to slap it on numerous timeslots on Disney Channel (and later Disney Junior).
  • Children Voicing Children: While not much is known about the show's voice actors due to the end credits refusing to list them, going off of a joke in the episode "Simple Hitchki" where Samosa's group meet their voice actors, the child characters Dhokla and Vada are voiced by children (in the original Hindi dub, at least).
  • Development Gag: Several episodes show artwork of the characters from before their designs were finalized being used as background paintings. For example, in "Museum", you can see prototype Jalebi in a painting in the corner at one point, and in "Time Freeze", Dhokla has prototype artwork of himself in his house.
  • Dueling Dubs: This show was dubbed into English twice. One dub is known to cover season 1 and the other dub covers both season 1 and season 2. The differences mostly consist of slight differences in the dialogue, Vada calling Samosa either "Samosa-Bhaya" or "Samosa-Bro" depending on the dub, Vada's voice being noticeably higher-pitched and more feminine sounding in the later dub, and the theme song being re-recorded with a few different lyrics. There are two dubs in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu as well.
  • Fandom Life Cycle: It's always been in stage 0(a) in America, for starters, but in India it's probably more around stage 1. The show does have fans, but there are almost no particularly active fan groups for it anywhere — which seems pretty odd for a show that has pulled in more than 25 million viewers, even with older viewers' hatred for the show aside.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes:
    • There are two dubs of the show for each language it's aired in (Hindi, English, Tamil, and Telugu), with one version only covering the first season and a later version covering it and Season 2, both with noticeable differences between each other that are mostly evident in the dialogue. The original dubs of Season 1 became completely replaced by the ones produced later for television airings, and Disney+ Hotstar only carries the later dubs, meaning the original audio tracks are only accessible via fan recordings.
    • The HTML5 browser game, Simple Samosa Game, is no longer available on Disney India's official site as of the 2020's.
  • Licensed Game: Has a browser platformer called Simple Samosa Game.
  • Marathon Running: The first 12 episodes were aired on the day of the show's original release, and the show dominated the schedule for a lot of that week.
  • Missing Episode: For unknown reasons, "Sauce Awakens" isn't on Disney+ Hotstar. It was made available in 2022 before being removed.
  • Out of Order: The Disney+ Hotstar roster lists a number of the show's earlier episodes in the wrong order, but labels them via their titles and descriptions as though they're in the correct order. To name a few examples, "Carnival Chaos" (episode 9) is in episode 8's spot, "Chhote Rajaji" (episode 14) is in episode 17's spot, and "Doctor D" (episode 16) is in episode 25's spot.
  • Referenced by...: In Bhaagam Bhaag, another Disney Channel India show created by Sanjiv Waeerkar, the main character, Sunny, owns a Simple Samosa backpack.
  • Release Date Change: Season 2 was originally to premiere around Diwali 2019 according to series creator Sanjiv Waeerkar's official LinkedIn page. It ultimately had its premiere moved to January 20th, 2020 for unknown reasons.
  • Repeating Ad: The Disney Junior promo aired twice in one commercial break.
  • Screwed by the Network:
    • It had some effort put into it and it had some fans (even some fans outside of India) but Disney India removed it less than a year after its premiere. Some people think they removed it in favor of imported animation such as Doraemon.
    • After a short time of evening reruns, it got put in an inconvenient timeslot and the amount of reruns eventually decreased.
  • Similarly Named Works: Cyberchase had a CD-ROM game called Carnival Chaos long before Simple Samosa had an episode of the same name.
  • Uncredited Role: The end credits do not list the voice actors at all.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Very minor, but the show's promos contain a piece of official artwork depicting the main characters that was pretty obviously drawn before the character designs were finalized, as it shows several subtle design differences. For example, Samosa's mouth is rounded out when it's open and does not have visible teeth in it, while Dhokla has divided teeth; both of these were changed in the actual show.
    • A prototype of Simple Samosa Game was found by a member of the Flash game archive crew Flashpoint in 2023 that had 16 levels on the level select screen instead of 12. It's unknown whether there's data for the levels.
