Trivia / Sexy Beast

Go To

  • Cast the Runner-Up: Ray Winstone was also given the option of playing Don.
  • Completely Different Title: The film was released as Bestia salvaje ("Wild Beast") in Latin America.
  • Dyeing for Your Art: Ray Winstone travelled to Spain two weeks before filming commenced to get as deep a tan as he could in the time possible and to eat as much as he could to bulk up considerably. He called it "the best rehearsal time I've ever had in my life."
  • Enforced Method Acting: Reportedly the other actors were so stunned by the ferocity of Ben Kingsley's performance that they occasionally forgot their lines and much of the fear in their performances wasn't difficult to act.
  • In Memoriam: Cavan Kendall, who played Gal's best mate Aitch, died of cancer shortly after filming. The cast credits are followed by the line "Good Bye Sweet Cavan" in tribute.
  • One-Take Wonder: The shot where Don kicks the cabinet doors was done in only one take. Jonathan Glazer decided that coverage wasn't necessary.
  • Playing Against Type: Ray Winstone is uncharacteristically meek in this one. That is, until Logan pushes him too far.
    • Also, Ben Kingsley. My God. He earned that Oscar nomination.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The conversation in the kitchen between Gal and Don originally took place in the living room, but Jonathan Glazer decided that a more domestic and less formal setting would be more effective.
    • Anthony Hopkins was considered for the role of Don Logan.
  • Word of St. Paul: Ben Kingsley indicated that one of the things fueling Don Logan's anger and viciousness was that he had been abused as a child.
