Trivia / Saturn 3

Go To

  • Box Office Bomb: Despite an unknown budget (likely somewhere in the mid- to high 10s), the film grossed only $9 million.
  • Creator Backlash: Producer Lew Grade said he was disappointed with how this film turned out, that it looked good on paper but the project started to fall apart after John Barry's inexperience started to show through, Kirk Douglas' ego running riot, Harvey Keitel's lack of co-operation, Farrah Fawcett's lack of character personality and the script problems due to poor planning. Grade said the film he agreed to fund and the end results were almost two different films. Fawcett has also hinted that the film came out differently to how it was sold to her before production started.
  • Deleted Scene: Two scenes that had been filmed for the production were edited out, due to Lew Grade objecting to their subject matter. These were a dream sequence that involved both Adam and Alex killing Benson and a scene where Hector ripped apart Benson's dead body on a table in one of the colony's laboratories. A scene where Fawcett appeared in suspenders(garters), which was on the original poster, is not in the final film. These cuts, among others, reduced the running time to 87 minutes.
  • Development Hell: The movie changed hands and writers several times. The end result is a film that doesn't quite know what it wants to be.
  • Hostility on the Set: Stanley Donen was dissatisfied with Harvey Keitel and the two men had a poor working relationship. A friend of Keitel's said the actor "hated everything and everybody on that film."
  • Missing Trailer Scene: A scene with Fawcett wearing a tight jumpsuit was featured in a trailer, some publicity stills, and even a poster in Thailand, but appears nowhere in the finished product.
  • Recycled Set: During the cat and mouse game with Hector and the heroes, they repeatedly run through the same corridor with the same lighting shot from the same angle.
  • Troubled Production: John Barry's inexperience led to him quitting as director and Stanley Donen taking over, Harvey Keitel had such a bad experience that he refused to do any post-production work, leading to his voice being dubbed and ITC's Raise the Titanic! went over-budget and over-schedule, causing this production to be cut back.
  • What Could Have Been: The film was supposed to star Michael Caine and Sean Connery.
  • Working Title: The Helper.
