• Accidental Downer Ending: The show ends with Sheila biting Joel, intending to turn him into an undead so they could live their life together in eternity. Joel is dying from the bite, and we don't know if he ultimately dies or will wake up as an undead. This would have been resolved in a future season, but Netflix cancelled the series before that was greenlit.
• Crosscast Role: A rare non-binary example. Abby Hammond, a cisgender girl, is played by a non-binary actor.
• The Danza: The character Ramona is played by actress Ramona Young.
• Dawson Casting: 16 year old Abby is played by 22 year old Liv Hewson and Eric's Skyler Gisondo is only a year younger.
• Fake American: Liv Hewson, who plays Abby, is Australian.
• Playing Against Type: Rom Com star Drew Barrymore and rugged badass Timothy Olyphant as a Happily Married couple in a horror-comedy series. Plus, Barrymore being the "monster" while Olyphant is the regular guy is a neat switch of their roles in the Scream series.
• The Other Darrin: Alan Tudyk replaces his Firefly castmate Nathan Fillion in Season 3, with the show going to quite amusing lengths to explain it as Gary decomposes due to not getting the serum in time, including a part of his throat falling out and changing his voice.
• Production Posse: Actors from other Victor Fresco shows such as Andy Richter (Andy Richter Controls the Universe) Portia de Rossi (Better Off Ted) and Thomas Lennon (Sean Saves the World) make guest appearances in the first season.
