Trivia / Sanjay and Craig

Go To

  • Actor Allusion:
    • This is Chris Hardwick's second role as an animal who frequently disguises himself as a human.
    • Maulik Pancholy previously played a character named Sanjay Patel on Weeds.
  • Creator Cameo: Creators Jay Howell and Jim Dirschberger have both voiced some minor/extra characters.
    • Producer Thurop Van Orman voices a lot of incidental roles, and even appears as Noodman's uncle Thurop in "Family Re-Noodman".
  • Cross-Dressing Voices:
    • Later on, Scabs was voiced by Grey DeLisle, an adult woman.
    • Some minor boy characters were voiced by Eliza Jane Schneider and Janet Varney.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: After the series ended in July 2016, reruns air on Nicktoons, though it's sometimes taken off the schedule and put back on a frequent basis. Despite all that, the whole series can be found on iTunes and Paramount+.
  • Screwed by the Network: Several episodes ran in other countries before the United States including the last episodes of Season 2 which eventually aired after Season 3 already aired. New episodes stopped airing altogether in February 2016 when the Friday night block was canceled. It eventually burned off all its episodes in the summer. At the very least, it became the first (and so far only) Nicktoon to premiere in the 2010s to have all its episodes premiere on Nickelodeon instead of Nicktoons.
  • The Other Darrin:
    • Keith Ferguson voiced Scabs Dickson in his first appearance only for Grey DeLisle to take over the role.
    • Maulik Pancholy, Sanjay's voice actor, also voiced Baby Richard Dickson for the first 6 episodes before Nolan North assumed the role from episode 7 onwards.
    • Natasha Lyonne voiced Chido for her first appearance in "Biko O Psycho" before Pamela Adlon ended up with the role.
    • Linda Cardellini, Megan's voice actress, voiced Hector's mother in seasons 1-2 before Grey DeLisle got the role in season 3.
  • Saved from Development Hell: The show was originally going to premiere on November 3, 2012 with The Giving G & Stinkboy being the first episode., but was pulled by Nickelodeon due to the season not wrapping up production, but was later rescheduled a year later.
  • Troubled Production: Being animated at Saerom, the show's animation waffles between fluid to stiff. And sometimes animators would often mess up by miscoloring, drawing a character wrong, or leaving out a drawing. Thankfully, retakes often oversee any errors made by animators and fix them.
Jim Dirschberger: Sometimes the animators forget things. It could be a prop, special pose... or a character's entire face!
  • What Could Have Been:
    • The series was originally pitched as a comic book, with Sanjay instead being an overweight, middle-aged snake charmer and Craig as his performing animal companion. While the two still had the strong friendship of the final product, Nickelodeon changed Sanjay to a kid with Craig as his pet to make the characters more appealing to kids.
    • In the original pitch pilot intro, Craig was a regular snake granted intelligence when Sanjay used an invention from dad’s basement on him.
