Trivia / Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles

Go To

  • Completely Different Title: in Latin America the show is named Invasión: La Serie (Lit. Invasion: The series) because the 1997 film was titled Invasión (Invasion), however this is a case of In Name Only since the animated series is actually Truer to the Text.
  • The Other Darrin: Clancy Brown is the only actor to reprise his role from the film, that of Career Sergeant Zim. All other characters were recast.
  • Troubled Production: Big time. Also overlapped with Screwed by the Network in certain cases— it was syndicated by BKN (Columbia Tristar Television licensing it to them), and as a result, it was supposed to air 5 episodes a week. But there weren't enough episodes ready yet, forcing BKN to rerun multiple episodes. Some stations aired the new episodes as they came in, even if they were already in the middle of a story arc. Then BKN went and sold the show simultaneously to what was then the Sci-Fi Channel, pissing off Sony (and damaging Sony and Sci-Fi's relationship in the process). VFX house Flat Earth left the project midway; rumors said that they fell behind in their work for this show (being busy with Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Xena: Warrior Princess at the same time), but it may have been because Sony kept delaying Flat Earth payment for their work, forcing them to pay for the Roughnecks work themselves and forcing them to leave when the financial stability of the company was called into question, delaying production of new episodes even further. As a result, several Clip Shows were pasted together to help fill the initial episode order. And combine all this with a dying syndicated market for animation, and being scheduled in unpalatable timeslots on both local stations and Sci-Fi (much like what had happened to Exosquad earlier in the decade), the show was canned with four episodes left unproduced.
  • Unfinished Episode: The last four episodes were left unfinished due to the Troubled Production, leaving the show to end with a cliffhanger and to make up for the 40-episode order, four clip shows were produced in its place. The dialogue of the episodes had been done at the time of the cancellation.
  • What Could Have Been: The show was originally intended to be a traditionally animated series.
    • The last four episodes would've ended the series with a titanic battle against the Bug forces on Earth.
