- Box Office Bomb: Budget, $10 million. Gross, $3.2 million.
- Fake American: Brit Gary Oldman plays an Italian-American.
- Fake Nationality: Roy Scheider, of Irish and German ancestry, as Don Falcone, Italian mafia kingpin.
- Fake Russian: The Swedish Lena Olin as the Russian gangster Mona.
- What Could Have Been:
- Jon Bon Jovi originally wrote the song "Always" for the movie, but dropped it after watching the preview, stating "The script was great; the movie wasn't." Hence the opening lyrics mention "Romeo Is Bleeding".
- Al Pacino was set to play the lead before backing out. Alec Baldwin stepped in to take over the role but also eventually backed out.
- Mona’s character was originally an Italian and would’ve been a New Yorker. A filmed (but deleted) scene had Peter Boyle playing a doctor who’d known and been patching Mona up since her youth. When Ellen Barkin dropped out of the film due to a real-life pregnancy, she was replaced by Lena Olin, necessitating Mona’s change from Italian Mona De Marco to Russian Mona Demarkov and muddling her status as a local.
