Trivia / Ridgeside Village

Go To

  • Author's Saving Throw: The dialog in earlier versions of this mod had some lines that were considered offensive by some players (one Let's Player in a video even made a comment along the lines of the mod looking like it was made by "a bunch of thirsty dudes"). These lines were removed in release 1.12.15 and Raffseazz apologized in the changelog for not vetting them before.
  • Contest Winner Cameo:
    • There's a picture in the lobby of the Log Cabin Hotel that is the one that won the 2021 fanart Discord Contest. The caption says "This picture was taken during a Ridgeside Karaoke event by the Grampleton photograper Ark Nir".
    • Release 2.0.4 added three more fanart contest winners on the second floor of the Log Cabin Hotel, in addition to the winning entry of the poem writting contest on a logbook at the lobby.
  • Dummied Out:
    • After acquiring the sewer key if you search carefully around in the grassy area near the lower Cable Car station, you can find a hatch leading down to a small sewer tunnel, but the way forward is blocked by two unbreakable stones. Looking at the sewer map in an editor or using a no-clip mod reveals that it's a huge area, with several furnished rooms implying someone lives down there, and a big scary-looking altar of some kind. The mod creators have confirmed that this is intended to be used for future content, but it hasn't been implemented yet. Release 2.3 added an event in which Mr. Aguar and the Wizard Rasmodius explore those sewers and comment on a dark magical aura emanating deep below there.
    • Release version 2.3 included wedding portraits for Faye and Bryle in the data files, who only became romanceable characters in the later release 2.4.
    • The data files show a commented-out entry for Bliss in the gift preferences, suggesting that she was intended to be a friend-able character, at least initially.
  • Outdated by Canon: During the Luau festival, Richard mentions that it's a very old tradition of the town, as "it was present before him and will continue after he's gone." The official comic book Stardew Valley Before the Farmer reveals that the first Luau took place on the year before the Farmer arrived to the valley.
  • What Could Have Been: According to the mod creator, Rafseazz:
    • Alissa was originally going to have a very different personality, being more cold and confident. The creator realized that this would make her too similar to Maddie so it was changed.
    • Pika and Keahi were originally going to be named Anton and Percy and were going to have Italian roots. He changed it in order to push for a more diverse cast of characters, and instead made them Polynesian inspired (Rafseazz is from the Philippines). The Italian elements would be re-used for Lorenzo and his family.
    • There was going to be a Puppy Love Love Triangle between Trinnie, Keahi and Yuuma, but it was dropped once he realized it didn't work with their finished personalities.
    • The crystals in the village were going to play a more important part in the Spirit Realm questline, but it caused issues with the pathing of NPCs.
    • The mod's story was going to focus on connecting the villagers with their deceased relatives on the Spirit Realm in order for them to get closure. This was dropped when it became clear that their storylines were already giving them that.
    • Malaya was originally going to be named "Ceina". This was changed before version 2.0, in which she was introduced, was released.
  • Write Who You Know: According to Rafseazz, many characters and their dynamics are based on himself and people he knows.
