Trivia / Realm of the Mad God

Go To

  • Ascended Fanon: The Realm Eye slips that he gained an Affectionate Nickname of "Mr. Eyeball" before the Corruption Phantom took over the Cursed Library if you ask him to talk about himself, heavily implying that he is the true identity of MrEyeball (a bot that can track player statistics, locations, and reputation) in-universe.
  • Demand Overload:
    • The servers are... not very strong, to say the least. They will often drop players like flies when too many of them cram into the game because of player-hosted and/or official events. DECA has acknowledged this, with the Server enemies in the Machine canonically being powered by potato batteriesnote .
    • This is also the reason dungeons have a player cap that has only shrunken since its implementation, as cramming hundreds of players into an instance combined with irresponsible use of disruptive abilities like the Mystic's orb has, on at least one occasion, led to a lag spike that killed almost every single person inside with only a comparatively tiny handful of survivors.
  • Development Gag: A couple of Realm Eye responses make reference to scrapped content:
    • The scrapped Goblin Lair is explained as being inaccessible due to a virus turning the enemies meant to drop the portal into The Glitch.
    • The Oryx Horde is mentioned to have been created because of Oryx wanting to fight "like old times," which refers to the game's earliest builds having Oryx appear on the beach instead of sending players to his castle.
  • Dummied Out: Though the game has taken good care of weeding out unused content (barring testing and admin-only items), some still remain:
    • Tier 8 abilities for all classes exist, even though a player can only go as high as tier 7 legitimately. Of note among them is the Sacrilege Skull, which is a Palette Swap of the Skull of Corrupted Souls UT rather than the tiered abilities.
    • The Appetizer event boss has an unused Rogue-based UT set associated with him, including a comically large spoon that spawns healing items at a 10% chance per hit.
    • Upgraded versions of the loot associated with the Undead Lair and Abyss of Demons exist but are not obtainable, likely intended to be part of their heroic variants before they were phased out.
    • An unused Seal called the Seal of Divine Focus exists as a remnant of the Scholar Seal's development.
    • An attempt at allowing players to reskin UT items without grinding for separate drops exists in the form of the Jade Shard, which would've been used on the Quiver of Thunder and Helm of the Juggernaut.
    • Shaitan the Advisor has a mark for himself coded into the game, even though Court of Oryx bosses are not eligible to be part of any daily quests. As a result, it goes unused except for very specific events.
    • A bottomless buff potion exists in the game's code, and is not intended for admin-only use. It is likely not released as it provides a perpetual source of buffing speed and attack, two of the most vital stats for endgame fighting.
    • A multi-use version of the Suspicious Milk Bottle gag item released for Halloween events exists but is not obtainable.
  • Fandom Nod:
    • On April Fools' Day, Seals of Blasphemous Prayer get changed to look like Chocolate Cream Sandwich Cookies, an obvious reference to their Fan Nickname of "Oreos."
    • The Realm Eye mentions a theory that the Parasite Chambers are actually the remains of a guild hall following some kind of accident, in reference to a Reddit post which suggested such following the discovery of props reused from the Guild Hall proper in the Chambers. What prevents this from being Ascended Fanfic or Ascended Fanon is the fact that he can't confirm or deny its veracity.
    • Fire Swords and Kendo Sticks have had a history of being regarded as good luck charms. The Realm Eye notes this in his responses to both weapons, working the former into the lore as being considered a symbol of purity due to being unfazed by the use of corrupting magic to enhance the frame and chiding the latter as rather preposterous. On Malogia, you can even get an Untiered Fire Blade katana, whose tooltip indicates that the Malogian natives also swear by it as a good luck charm.
  • Promoted Fanboy: SaturnZCheery, who started off as just making fanart for the game, but soon gained enough fame and notoriety that his art ended up being featured as the background for the game's loading screens.
  • Saved from Development Hell: In mid 2016, Realm was taken over by a splinter company from Kabam! called DECA Games. They quickly proved themselves good to their word.
