Trivia / RWBY Chibi

Go To

  • Ascended Fanon: Episode 21 is made up entirely of adaptations of fan-made webcomics. Letter to Winter is this Dumb_RWBY strip, and Cinder Who? is this comic.
  • Ascended Meme: The Japanese fandom often joked about Cinder's age by pairing her up with Kikuko Inoue's infamous Catchphrase note , but episode 21 shows her shopping at a Forever 21-based store called "Always 17".
  • B-Team Sequel: In a way - the crew is the same of the main show, but using far less people (an episode of RWBY has a laundry list of animators, one for Chibi has at most four, with one or two per segment) and with the main names eventually phasing out: most episodes of Season 1 were directed by Kerry and written by him and Miles, but by the next season Tom Alvarado was the main writer, and just about everyone directed at least a segment (including the eventual Season 3 director, Paula Decanini).
  • Distanced from Current Events: The police segment with Sun and Neptune in Episode 12 was changed slightly - when Jaune reaches for his library card, the Tugg viewings had Sun shout "HE'S REACHING!", but the public version has him shouting "WATCH OUT!" This is most likely due to a number of police-related incidents in contemporary months, especially one very close to RT.
  • Fandom Nod: The last bit of Episode 6 has Yang starting an Orphaned Punchline with her ship name with Blake. However, it can also be referring to her motorcycle or her team attack with Blake:
"And I said, 'Bumblebee? More like—'"
  • The Other Darrin: Much like in the main series, Jason Liebrecht replaces Vic Mignogna as Qrow, starting with the Neon Konbini episodes. Likewise, Anthony Sardinha replaces Ryan Haywood as Professor Port, following up from Grimm Eclipse: Definitive Edition.
  • The Red Stapler:
    • Ever since "Now that's a katana!" became a Running Gag, most of the comments with videos that have the gag in them are demanding for a T-shirt of the quote.
    • The most common comment for Episode 11 seems to be "Give us that Blake motivational poster!"
    • After Episode 23, a lot of people want Real Chibi Beans.
  • Series Hiatus: Despite advertising additional episodes and the addition of Coco to the cast, Season 3 came to an abrupt end on August 18th, 2018 with RWBY Dreams. This came across as odd to many as not only did Coco make no appearances in spite of the advertising, the season finales were traditionally a single longer skit, whereas RWBY Dreams was two skits like a normal episode, and the third in a series of episodes focusing on the characters dreaming, preceded by JNPR Dreams and Nefarious Dreams. Only in 2021 did the series resume, this time as part of the Rooster Teeth anthology Neon Konbini.
  • Throw It In!: During production, the crew reviews silent animatics. And in the case of "JNPR Dreams", every time Ren was revealed lying on the chair, someone would sing "Ren!" Eventually, composer Alex Abraham was asked to create such a choir for the final scene.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • During the RWBY Chibi panel at RTX 2016, somebody asked if they were planning to make any more jokes about Pyrrha like the one when she first appears in Chibi, with people knowing, somehow, her fate. Kerry responded that they had seriously considered one where Pyrrha got ketchup on her, and Jaune, seeing the wet red blotch, freaks out.
    • Similarly, the 2018 panel had animator Ian Kedward revealing he constantly pitches a Chibi recreation of Pyrrha's death that is revealed to be a badly done school play.
    • The Halloween Episode would feature a version of the title sequence where the girls were skeletons, but in spite of much progress in the animation the crew eventually felt it was too creepy.
    • It was planned to have Coco Adel show up in Season 3, where she would reveal herself to be a lesbian. It was cut and her sexual orientation was revealed in RWBY: After the Fall. Though the segment introducing the character and alluding to how Coco "broke a lot of girls' hearts" would end up being the first in Season 4.
