• Romance on the Set: Meg Ryan and Russell Crowe had an affair during filming, which was especially infamous as she was married to Dennis Quaid at the time, resulting in ruining their marriage.
• Troubled Production: Although the producers wanted to film in Colombia, due to the dangers that local guerrillas posed in that country at the time, the movie was mainly filmed in Ecuador. It also dealt with the death of David Morse's stand-in in an accident on the set.
