What Could Have Been: Originally, The Raptor's Tail would have been about about the holotype specimen of Oviraptor trying to protect their eggs, only for her and her brood to be killed by a sand storm. As if that wasn't a Downer Ending, the epilogue would have had modern man describe it as a brutish egg thief and overlook it having been a caring parent, just like how the exact same specimen was when it was discovered. Blackburn decided that this was a bit too depressing.
- He also considered keeping the protagonist an Oviraptor with a more-or-less final story, but realized naming a caretaker Oviraptor character "Ruby" would have been unintentionally copying The Land Before Time.
