- Actor Leaves, Character Dies: Stylax at the start of season 4, in which a marble slab is dropped on a double before the title card is even shown, due to Joel Fry leaving between seasons 3 and 4.
- Genius Bonus: The show can be surprisingly intelligent with how many real Roman staples are included:
- The currency used wasn't made up for the show, it is the exact same scholars suspect was used in Ancient Rome; Denarii.
- Stylax's patron is named Gaius Maecenas. The real Maecenas was well known as a patron, but for poets, not charioteers.
- In "The Candidate", Victor of the Gracchi is a likely nod to brothers Tiberius and Gaius Gracchus, both populist politicians who ran for the tribunate and met bad ends.
- One episode in Series 4 is dedicated to Lupercalia, which, while it's treated as a very similar holiday to Valentines Day in the show, isn't too far off the intended purpose (A pastoral festival promoting health and fertility).
- Series 5's "The Wedding" has a man named Hermes as a postmen who refuses to deliver to the bar. Hermes is well-known as the messenger of the Roman gods, but it also acts a Take That! towards delivery company Evri, which was formally called Hermes prior to 2019.
