Trivia / Pinky Malinky

• Channel Hop: The original animated short was made at Cartoon Network's European division in 2009, with the network rejecting the pitch before Nickelodeon picked it up a few years later following a second pilot. The show was then put on the shelf for a while until airing on Netflix in 2019.
• Dawson Casting: All the voice actors for the young characters are adults. Even Diamond White (voice of Babs) was 20 when the show came out.
• Dueling Shows: With Cartoon Network's Apple & Onion, with both series being created by former The Amazing World of Gumball writers and storyboarders.
• Fake American: All the voice actors in the pilot sans Pinky's are faking an American accent.
• He Also Did: We'll recognize Nathan Kress' voice anywhere.
• Release Date Change: Nickelodeon postponed its 2016 premiere to 2017. Which in turn was delayed to 2018, with Rikke Asbjørn revealing the show had be renewed for a second season despite the premiere still being unknown to both the public and the show's crew. It was then announced for a August 2018 release date on Netflix...which it also missed. It was eventually announced a few months later to finally be premiering January 2019.
• Screwed by the Network: The series was originally meant to premiere in 2016 on Nickelodeon, but slowly got pushed further and further ahead. The show would end up premiering with minimal fanfare not even on Nickelodeon, but on Netflix instead, as part of a content creation deal that parent company Viacom made with the streaming service. Even there, it was cancelled after three seasons.
• What Could Have Been:
  • The show could have potentially been the second series from Cartoon Network Studios Europe.
  • In the original pilot, rather than having been born a hot dog, Pinky was a normal boy who was somehow transformed into one.
  • The characters' voice actors are British in the pilot.
  • Babs was originally going to be male and was supposed to be an onion named Onions. By the second pilot, Babs became a slow-witted human with a afro named Lionel Boone, before finally becoming a black woman named Babs for the final show. The outfit worn by the character stayed the same throughout each of these incarnations.
  • JJ was completely absent in the first two shorts.
