Trivia / Peter No-Tail

• Dueling Dubs: Both animated movies from the '80s had two English dubs, a British and American one, and both have somewhat notable actors.
  • In the American dub of the first movie, which was produced by Atlantic Television, Inc., and Sync, Ltd., and distributed by Vestron Video through their Children's Video Library label, Bull is voiced by Dom De Luise, who is famous for his co-starring with Burt Reynolds in several movies and voicing comic relief characters in Don Bluth movies such as Jeremy from The Secret of NIMH and Fagin from Disney's Oliver & Company. Birgitta and Olle's mother (whose names are Brenda and Phillip in this dub) is voiced by June Lockhart, and Måns/Mean Mike/Max is voiced by Larry Storch.
  • There was also a British dub of the first movie, starring Steven Pacey as Peter himself, which was released by Video Collection International in 1986 and produced by World Wide Sound London in 1983. According to this listing on Pre-Cert Video, the dub actually was released by a distributor known as Videomedia in September 1983.
    • In this dub, Måns/Mean Mike is voiced by Peter Woodthorpe, who voiced Gollum in both Ralph Bakshi's The Lord of the Rings and BBC's radio adaptation. (Coincidentally made by Michael Bakewell, who directed this English dub).
  • Cam Clarke, best known as Leonardo from the first TMNT cartoon voices Pelle/Peter himself in the American dub of Peter No-Tail in America, which was distributed by Atlantic Releasing Corporation^note  Not to be confused with the above-mentioned Atlantic Television, Inc., which may or may not be related. In the British dub, he is voiced with an American accent by Susan Sheridan, who also voiced Noddy in Noddy's Toyland Adventures and Princess Eilonwy from The Black Cauldron.
• He Also Did: In addition to the Peter No-Tail films, both directors Stig Lasseby and Jan Gissberg have other well-known works (though only Jan's other films are even remotely well-known in the Anglosphere like Peter No-Tail is):
  • Stig Lasseby was a pioneer of animation in Sweden, and created a television series based on Agaton Sax, a series of children's books by Nils-Olof Franzén. and directed the first fully-animated Swedish film, Agaton Sax och Byköpings Gästabud (Agaton Sax and the Byköpings Village Festival). Stig's company Teamfilm produced both those cartoons and Peter No-Tail.
  • Jan Gissberg also later directed two films based on the characters of Charlie Strapp & Froggy Ball (Kalle Stropp and Grodan Boll, created by Thomas Funck, Kalle Stropp och Grodan Boll räddar Hönan ("Charlie Strapp & Froggy Ball Save the Hen") and Kalle Stropp och Grodan Boll på svindlande äventyr, known in English as Charlie Strapp & Froggy Ball Flying High, which also had an English dub, but was only released in Canada and the United Kingdom.^note And only the former actually got it on VHS, while it was broadcast on Channel 5 in the UK
  • Jan Gissberg also has done work on 91:an Karlsson.
• Keep Circulating the Tapes: Both English dubs of both of the 1980s animated films can be found online, but haven't had an official releases beyond their original VHS releases and occasionally airing on Disney Channel or BBC during the 1990s:
  • The dubs of the first film are fairly easy to find on eBay, but have limited listings. There are two releases of the American dub from Vestron Video in particular: the original 1983 VHS, which was released under the Children's Video Library label, and a later re-issue from 1986 with just the Vestron Video logo on the cover. The British dub's 1986 VHS is also available on eBay as of this writing, but the 1983 Videomedia release (if it exists at all) is lost.
  • The dubs of the second film, Peter No-Tail In America, aren't even known to have any VHS releases at all. The American dub is only available through a Disney Channel rip. The UK dub does seem to have a home video release, but only from very-low-resolution images of the video cover online.
• Late Export for You: Despite both animated movies being dubbed into English twice (see Dueling Dubs) and despite the books having been translated into several other languages. The books were just translated into English in 2017, 78 years after the first book was originally released.
• No Dub for You: Even still, the third book, Pelle Svanslös i Amerika has not been released in English^{possibly because...} the book itself clearly takes place in the '40s and has a subplot about the rampant racism towards blacks at the time. (The Film Of That Book that did get released in English is an In Name Only Mind Screw of a film.), and as of now, none of the books past the fourth one have been translated either.
• No Export for You: In addition to the books that haven't been translated, the 2020 film counts. An English dub of the new 2020 film has been made, but so far appears to have had a very limited international release, and no DVDs of it can even be found on eBay or Amazon. So far, it has been released in the Arab World (specifically on the OSN streaming service), but hasn't been released anywhere else (at least not yet), not even on the DVD release in its native Sweden (which include other Scandinavian languages).
• Write Who You Know: Most of the characters have some kind of inspiration taken from people in Knutsson's life.
