Trivia / Peacemaker (2022)

Go To

  • Actor-Inspired Element: James Gunn has said that the decision to make Peacemaker bisexual came from John Cena's improvisation.
  • All There in the Manual: The passcode to Auggie Smith's quantum closet is 261011. Given he's a white supremacist, you might expect this to match their love of number codes. Instead, the code is an homage to Robert Patrick, the actor who portrays Smith, as Patrick is the 1st Charter Holder of the 101st chapter of the Booze Fighters Motorcycle Club, being BF1011. Since B is the second letter of the alphabet, and F is the sixth letter, that would then become 26-101-1. Naturally, this is never explained in the show.
  • Auteur License: For salvaging The Suicide Squad after its divisive first cinematic outing, James Gunn has nearly carte-blanche with this series.
  • The Cast Showoff: James Gunn confirmed that the scene where Peacemaker plays the piano was really performed by John Cena.
  • California Doubling: British Columbia served as Washington State in filming.
  • Colbert Bump: Norwegian metal band Wig Wam saw a massive career resurgence after "Do You Wanna Taste It" was used in the opening credits for the show. In fact, they had been dropped by their booking agency just days before the show premiered (needless to say, they quickly found another).
  • Corpsing: During Peacemaker’s rant about people who Economos could have put in jail instead of his father, Vigilante is shown bursting into laughter.
  • Deleted Role: Canadian actor and model Matt Turner confirmed on his Instagram page that he was cast as the body double for Batman in the Justice League cameo in the finale, but both he and the stand-in portraying Cyborg were digitally removed from the scene in post-production.
  • Executive Veto: James Gunn implied that there were complications tied to including either Cyborg or Batman as part of the Justice League cameo at the end of the first season finale thanks to this, although the final cut has more characters appearing in the scene than what were initially planned (originally, it was just going to be Aquaman). It is speculated that this is because of Ray Fisher's issues with the executives of DC Films causing him to effectively step down as Cyborg and Ben Affleck's planned retirement from the Batman role after The Flash, followed by Michael Keaton taking over as the character, which further complicated matters. Interestingly, it was later confirmed that extras playing Cyborg and Batman were hired and fitted in costumes, but digitally removed from the final shot.
  • Fake American: Freddie Stroma, who plays Vigilante, is from England.
  • Late Export for You: The first season didn't debut in the UK until March 22nd, after all of its episodes had already aired from January 13th 2022 to February 17th in the US.
  • The Other Darrin: In the Latin American Spanish dub, as a result of the show being dubbed by a different studio, many of the voice actors from both the Suicide Squad films and other films from the DCEU where changed in this series:
    • Rick Flag went from Irwin Daayán to Manuel Campuzano
    • Emilia Harcourt went from Xóchitl Ugarte to Mildred Barrera
    • The Flash is a rather curious case: while his voice actor from the films, Arturo Castañeda, didn't return here, he is replaced with Luis Navarro, who previously voiced him in the Arrowverse.
  • The Other Marty: Chris Conrad was originally cast as Adrian Chase / Vigilante, but left due to Creative Differences and was replaced by Freddie Stroma.
  • Playing Against Type: Freddie Stroma is typecast as a Jerk Jock. Here, he plays the dorky, yet endearing Adrian Chase AKA Vigilante.
  • Prop Recycling: When asked how they matched the bloodstains on Peacemaker's uniform in the opening of Episode 1, James Gunn said he was pretty certain they just used the same one from the end of The Suicide Squad.
  • Queer Character, Queer Actor: Elizabeth Ludlow, who is queer, plays lesbian Keeya, who's married to another woman.
  • Real Song Theme Tune: The opening credits show the cast dancing to “Do Ya Wanna Taste It?” by Wig Wam. Including Eagly.
  • Sequel in Another Medium: A streaming series that is a Spin-Off set after The Suicide Squad.
  • Those Two Actors: This is the third project John Cena and Robert Patrick have appeared in together after The Marine and Psych.
  • Throw It In!: There's plenty of times where the actors improvise some moments, with John Cena doing the most improv.
    • Leota's long introduction to her teammates in "A Whole New Whirled" was improvised by Danielle Brooks.
    • In "Monkey Dory", Peacemaker listing off a bunch of famous people that Economos could have sent to jail instead of his father was entirely improvised by John Cena. He was originally supposed to list just two people but Gunn let him continue as long as he could; Steve Agee revealed that there exists roughly 20 minutes of footage of Cena just shouting out random names.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Maggie Q was considered for the role of Sophie Song.
    • Judomaster was originally supposed to die after being shot by Leota in Episode 4, but James Gunn enjoyed Nhut Le's performance enough that the scene was rewritten to have the character survive.
    • Originally, only Jason Momoa as Aquaman was meant to appear in the first season finale as part of Waller's intended cavalry, with the rest of the Justice League portrayed by body doubles. However, after Ezra Miller expressed the desire to appear as well, the production team were also able to add them in as The Flash, with the cameo actually shot by Marvel on the set of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. The scene was also originally filmed with body doubles for Batman and Cyborg as well, but they were edited out of the final version of the episode due to the Executive Veto mentioned above.
  • Word of Gay: Gunn confirmed that Peacemaker is bisexual after the premiere of "Stop Dragon My Heart Around", but gives credit for that idea for the character to John Cena.
  • Word of God:
    • According to James Gunn himself, Adrian's visor has prescription lenses, hence why he takes his glasses off when he wears the mask and then puts his glasses back on when takes the mask off.
    • He also confirmed on his Twitter that despite Peacemaker listing off James Gunn and Freddie Stroma among his names of people who Economos could've sent to prison instead of his dad in the outtakes from "Monkey Dory", neither of them exist in the DCEU.
  • Write What You Know: According to James Gunn, Peacemaker and Vigilante blowing off steam by shooting and blowing up used appliances in the woods was based on what he and his friends did as youths growing up in rural Missouri.
  • You Sound Familiar: In the French dub, Jean-Baptiste Anoumon voiced Clemson Murn. He previously did Detective Crispus Allen in both versions of Justice League.
