Trivia / Paul Blart: Mall Cop

• California Doubling: Much of the movie was filmed in Burlington, MA, about fifteen miles from Boston. (The mall there is one of the biggest in the area.)
• Development Hell: Writer Nick Bakay first discussed this film as early as 2001. Also, the final film differs greatly from Nick's initial description, that the film would have had a more Die Hard feel to it, and Paul being a more John McClane-type character. Clearly there were a lot of re-writes.
• Dueling Movies: This and its Darker and Edgier rival Observe and Report. While this movie did better financially and eventually got a sequel, the critics preferred Observe and Report.
• Playing Against Type: This was one of the first times Jayma Mays didn't play The Ditz.
• What Could Have Been: There was originally going to be a third movie set in Hawaii.
