- What Could Have Been:
- New Line Cinema was attached to adapt the manga into a live-action film, but the project remained in Development Hell and was eventually scrapped altogether. Apparently this was why the manga didn't get any adaptations for so long despite its high regard in Japan, then suddenly it got the anime and the live-action movies within a few years of each other because the rights had finally reverted.
- At one point, Hayao Miyazaki was interested in making an animated film with Studio Ghibli. However, since New Line still owned the film rights, this never came into fruition either.
