• Contractual Immortality: Patrick Lorden is not allowed to die, on account of the plot-derailing extreme murder machine Dianda would turn into were her husband to be taken from her.
• Creator Backlash: Not the series itself, but a certain plot point. The author has said she regrets making the rules on fae so strict in the beginning, as it means she can't include other cultures' mythical peoples without inviting the problematic implications that would come from them being subservient to European fae. As a result, she doesn't think too fondly of the djinn and yokai from early in the series and has no plans on showing them again.
• Word of Gay: Every character except for Toby (who had a 1950's upbringing) should be considered bisexual. Fae are flexible like that.
