The Books:

  • The note that Tybalt leaves for Toby in A Local Habitation (Book 2) after helping her get home from a night out:
    October—
You were sleeping so peacefully that I was loath to wake you. Duke Torquill, after demanding to know what I was doing in your apartment, has requested that I inform you of his intent to visit after "tending to some business at the Queen's Court." I recommend wearing something clingy, as that may distract him from whatever he wishes to lecture you about this time. Hopefully, it’s your manners.
You are truly endearing when you sleep. I attribute this to the exotic nature of seeing you in a state of silence.
    —Tybalt
  • In book 7, Tybalt sees a hairless cat for the first time. "It's NAKED!"
  • Also in book 7, when Toby first sees Tybalt in leather trousers and is left speechless.
  • In Book 11, the Sea Witch singing "Poor Unfortunate Souls" at Toby's bachelorette party.
  • One of the False Queen's men dosing Toby with goblin fruit to get her addicted to it - by hitting her in the face with a pie made from the stuff.
  • In The Unkindest Tide, a small Selkie child tells the Luidaeg off for swearing.

Short Stories:

  • Patrick meeting Dianda for the first time in "Heaps of Pearl". While at the party honoring the Duke of Saltmist (Dianda's father), he is stopped by Dianda, and notes that she is both absolutely gorgeous and looks like she wants to hit someone. And then she asks:
Dianda: Is there real food here? Because I will hit you with a chair if it gets me real food.
  • In "Toby and the Shoes", when Toby begs Tybalt to take a pair of cursed shoes off her feet:
Tybalt: While I’m flattered that you would beg me so ardently to remove articles of your clothing, I’m afraid it’s not that simple.
