Trivia / Object Overload

Go To

  • Actor-Inspired Element: According to Niall, Television's running gag was not only inspired by Needle's running gag of being called "Needy" in Battle for Dream Island, but also the fact that he hated it when televisions were called "TVs" in his childhood.
  • Creator Backlash: Niall really hates the first version of Object Overload, calling it heinous.
  • Crossdressing Voices: Almost everyone was voiced by Niall in the original series and the reboot. Apparently, he's working on another Object Overload reboot that has more voice actors than just him and two or three other people with only one voice role.
  • Descended Creator: Niall, creator of the series, voiced almost everyone in the original and reboot versions, with very few characters being casted to other people.
  • Fake American: Most of the cast have parodied American accents, and they are all done by a single British voice actor.
  • Saved from Development Hell:
    • Cases of this go as far back as when this show just started. In his first attempt to upload episode one, Niall was only able to show the first 43 seconds to the public. He renamed the video to say it is just a preview, but thankfully Adam Katz (of Inanimate Insanity fame) and Samuel Thornbury (creator of Object Universe and Object Show '87) were able to help him upload the entire episode.
    • During the production of episode 6, the creator of the show's (Niall Burns) computer monitor broke and had to be repaired, putting the show on hiatus. He states in a video informing about the problem that there was a chance that in order to have his laptop fixed, they had to clear out the hard drive, which would result in the show's Cancellation (which, if this was the case, Object Overload would be replaced on a possibly scrapped project named Nit and Ash). However, such scenario didn't manage to happen, meaning Object Overload was able to continue production and have its sixth episode.
    • Niall started to lose his love for the original Object Overload as it progressed. So he canned it during the production of the seventh episode, only to be rebooted about a month later.
    • In a video, Niall didn't have an idea whenever or not to continue the rebooted series. In a live stream long after that video, he decided he wanted to work on the show again.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • It's possible that the sixteen contestants were seen in this very early intro was going to be the only contestants on the show. But then Niall added more.
    • There was supposed to be a Christmas Special in the works when Niall was trying to upload the first episode, but no such special ever came.
    • Unless those were spelling errors, Melony and Pearly were originally meant to be called "Melon" and "Pearl," according to the description of the very first Object Overload opening that was never seen in any episode.
    • The creator originally planned to remove Masky, Picture, and Soccer Ball from the reboot. While they were saved for the reboot, the same can't be said for Locky.
    • This song would have been the Theme Tune for the Object Overload reboot, had it not been for people having concern over the song for potential copyright. The song used as the Theme Tune ended up becoming Malt Shop Bop.
    • After Candy in the seventh episode, the elimination order would have been Paper Airplane, Dusty, Soccer Ball, and Boxing Glove.
    • In an episode of the now defunct podcast Chillin' Like a Villain, Niall confirmed that the alliance would had made it far in the original series. The winner also changed twice during production: originally, Kite would had won the original series, but it was changed to Masky, and then Fly Swat.
  • Word of God:
    • When asked about what happened to Marble's tooth, Niall replied by saying he lost his tooth after crashing into a tree when he was riding on a wagon.wagon. A test animation that was posted to X in 2024 does showcase Marble's wagon-riding incident, but shows his wagon hitting a wagon and him being flung out onto the ground instead.
    • Comments and journal entries on DeviantArt reveal several things about the show. Paper Airplane, Dusty, Soccer Ball, and Boxing Glove were the next contestants eliminated after Candy in the original series, the challenge of the eighth episode being to get Toothy's loose tooth out of his mouth, Kite has OCD, Toaster is broken, the running gag for Television's running gag being based on something from Niall's childhood, and the fact that Masky, Soccer Ball, and Picture were going to be cut from the old reboot.
