  • Executive Meddling: Rumored to have played a role in both the lower quality of Back from the Dead and the band's 1998 break-up. Given that Roadrunner had already axed every other death metal band on the label, this seems likely.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: Their two Candlelight Records albums (Xecutioner's Return and Darkest Day) have not been officially reprinted since at least 2009, and are not currently available on any legal streaming service. The only way to get them is to either torrent them or see if anyone happens to have a CD copy for sale.
  • The Pete Best: Daniel Tucker. He barely played any shows with the band and left right after he recorded Slowly We Rot, and his tenure with the band was so short-lived that they barely even remember having him in the band. He had a short-lived band in the 1990s and was part of Nocturnus AD (who do not tour) from 2013 to 2023, but Obituary was the last major act he was in.
  • Popularity Polynomial: Their massive resurgence in the 2010s was so pronounced that the "Obituary effect" is shorthand in death metal for an older band seeing a massive second wind well into their career from younger fans. They were one of the biggest death metal acts in the world for much of their original run, but saw a gigantic slump around the tail end and disappeared into obscurity. Their initial return was underwhelming; Frozen in Time was generally greeted with a shrug, while the two Santolla albums were universally disliked and the turnouts on their few scattered tours were inconsistent at best. By the latter half of the 2010s, however, their popularity had massively picked up thanks to younger fans and the hardcore scene as a whole rediscovering them, along with the well-received self-titled; by the end of the decade, they were one of the biggest acts in death metal and had become profitable enough to not need day jobs.
  • Saved from Development Hell: Inked in Blood slipped into Development Hell for a while after the band's release from Candlelight and subsequent inability to find a new label, and they ended up having to set up a Kickstarter to raise funds for an independent release. However, the band was able to raise $60,000 on a goal of $10,000, guaranteeing both the album's release and a set of documentary-style mini-films shot at Morrisound.
  • What Could Have Been: Long-running death metal musician Kam Lee mentioned at a show in 2011 that he and Allen West were planning on working on a project together called Corpserot. However, this never came to be; while neither West nor Lee revealed why, it's likely that West's legal troubles were the culprit.
