  • Children Voicing Children: Kai-Lan and her friends are all voiced by kids.
  • Crossdressing Voices: The male Hoho was voiced by the female Angie Wu.
  • Delayed Release Tie-In: The show was originally set to release in 2007 but never materialized until 2008. The characters from the series still appeared in several issues of Nick Jr. Magazine released in 2007.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: The series was based on a series of Nick Jr. shorts called Downward Doghouse, which are extremely hard to find.
  • Licensed Game: One was made for the Leapster, titled Ni Hao, Kai-Lan: Beach Day.
  • Live on Stage!: Appeared as part of Nick Jr's Storytime Live! crossover show, which adapted "Journey to Monkey King Castle". It was the only live stage appearance of the show all together before it ended the following year.
  • The Other Darrin: Minor character Mr. Fluffy has been voiced by four actors so far in the show's run: Jeremy Herzig, Austin Chan, Tommy Nightingale, and Elan Garfias.
  • Release Date Change: When the show was greenlit, it was going to air in Fall 2007. This was changed to February 2008.
  • Saved from Development Hell: It managed to escape, but for a while there it wasn't looking promising. The show was originally announced for Spring 2007, but didn't materialize, though the characters from the show were featured for months in the now-defunct Nick Jr. Magazine. The program didn't finally materialize until February 2008.
  • Short Run in Peru: The first two episodes of the series aired in Canada in November 2007. The show didn't even air in the United States until February 2008.
  • What Could Have Been: Season 3 was originally going to have more episodes.
