• Actor-Inspired Element: Thomas' implied asthma is a character trait inspired by the creator of the game.
• Author Phobia:
  • The game is inspired by creator Matt Gilgenbach's struggles with OCD, depression, anxiety, asthma, recurring nightmares, phobias, and much, much more!
  • Devastated Dreams, meanwhile, is based on Gilgenbach's insecurities about expecting a child and living in a rural area in the Philippines (native to his wife's family) without electricity or running water.
• Based on a Dream: Many of the situations and images in the game are directly inspired by nightmares and intrusive thoughts that the game's creator experienced.
• Development Hell: The only known publications in regards to Devastated Dreams' development is the 2015 demo, alongside its related articles on Infinitap Games' website; no more releases or updates were done since then, and it's unknown if it's still being worked on or was cancelled. Not helping is the fact that Infinitap Games had reportedly become much less active afterwards.
• Meaningful Rename: The original names of the two main characters, Adam and Lydia, were placeholders to begin with, but they were renamed after a rather harrowing last-minute ordeal with the kickstarter. Due to a localization error involving decimal points and commas, a backer from Brazil named Gabriel accidentally upped his pledge to the tune of several thousand more dollars than he'd intended with less than 24 hours left. Luckily, another backer named Thomas stepped in and picked up the bill in time, and several more backers chipped in and reimbursed Thomas the extra $3,000+ dollars he ended up paying. In honor of the whole affair, Matt Gilgenbach renamed the main characters Thomas and Gabrielle, or Gabby.
