Trivia / Nash Bridges

  • Career Resurrection: Following his botched attempt at making a film career, Don Johnson regained esteem playing the titular role in this series. Once one of the biggest TV stars in The '80s with his role in Miami Vice, Johnson's work in this show made him recognizable to a whole new generation of audiences.
  • Irony as She Is Cast: Nash Bridges features Cheech Marin, of Cheech & Chong fame, playing a cop, teaming up with Sonny Crockett. One episode even guest stars Cheech Marin's smoking buddy Tommy Chong, who himself is teamed up with Rico Tubbs.
  • Production Posse: Show creator Carlton Cuse went on to co-create Lost, a show whose actors have a pretty wide overlap with this one. Notably, Cheech Marin is Hurley's papa and Jeff Perry was Sawyer-victim Frank Duckett.
  • Promotion to Opening Titles: For the first season, Cheech Marin is credited as Special Guest Star. When the opening credits were changed in the second season, he was moved up to second-billed after Don Johnson ('Also Starring Cheech Marin') to duly recognize how important Cheech was to the show.
  • Screwed by the Network: Somewhat inverted. The show was doing good in the ratings for CBS as they wanted to extend it for two more seasons but Paramount Television felt that the show’s $2 Million per episode cost had become too much and was wanting to cancel the show.
    • Although the other main reason was Don Johnson being exhausted and burnt out from the grueling work schedule as he really wanted out. Both Paramount and CBS felt that the show had more than enough episodes for the show to be syndicated and the end result was cancellation despite the show still being a good ratings draw.
  • Underage Casting: James Gammon played Nash's father, Nick Bridges, despite being only nine years older than Don Johnson.
