Trivia / Nanny McPhee

Go To

  • Adored by the Network: Freeform (at least when they were ABC Family) loves to whip this movie out whenever they can.
  • Dawson Casting: Thomas Brodie-Sangster was fifteen when the movie was released, though he convincingly plays the part of a child young enough to need a nanny.
  • Fake Brit: Maggie Gyllenhall proudly takes her place on the list of "American actors who can actually do a convincing English accent".
  • International Coproduction: Between American company Universal and British companies Working Title and StudioCanal. The sequel adds Japanese studio Toho as one of the production companies.
  • Missing Trailer Scene: Some of the trailers for the sequel film included quite a bit of material that didn't make into the final cut of the film, though some of it was included in deleted scenes.
  • Referenced by...: Robot Chicken: A sketch from "We Don't See Much of That in 1940s America" has Simon and Tora discover that Nanny McPhee becomes prettier the more well-behaved they are. However, they discover that it works in reverse as well; they cause mayhem in the kitchen to make her uglier, until she eventually becomes so ugly that she explodes.
  • Renamed to Avoid Association: The books named the titular character "Nurse Matilda". To avoid confusion with Matilda, also a magic-user, the character underwent an Adaptation Name Change to "Nanny McPhee" for the movies.
  • Those Two Actors:
  • What Could Have Been:
    • On the commentary, it's mentioned that in the kitchen disaster scene, the baby originally was supposed to end up in the pot and bounce around as it got hotter and hotter. They scrapped that when they realized that would be a little too disturbing, and the final scene has the disaster averted just as Aggie is launched toward the pot.
    • A third film was reportedly planned, but since the sequel didn't quite rake in as much money as the first, this appears to have been scrapped for now.
  • Written by Cast Member: Both films' screenplays were written by Emma Thompson, who played Nanny McPhee.
