Trivia / Mysticons

Go To

  • Acting for Two: Deven Mack, the voice of Malvaron, also voices Baron Dreadbane, Ferrus Goldenbraid, Schnectacus, and Mathis (among others), giving him the most secondary voice roles in the show.
  • Actor Allusion:
  • The Danza: Doug Hadders as the voice of Doug Hadderstorm.
  • Dueling Shows: The art style and themes are reminiscent of Winx Club, and the show has more of a Power Rangers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2012) feel than most other Magical Girl shows. Heck, all four shows aired on both Nickelodeon AND YTV!
  • Missing Trailer Scene: Not from any trailer, but from the theme song. When Piper hugs Zarya, she's smiling. In Episode 4, where it happens, she has a shocked face.
  • Only So Many Canadian Actors: As a Canadian-produced series, Mysticons is obligated under Canadian content laws to use only Canadian actors in production, so there are a lot of names on the show who have appeared multiple times in other Nelvana series.
  • Screwed by the Network:
    • Unlike Welcome to the Wayne, and Bunsen Is a Beast before it, Nickelodeon at least had the common courtesy to announce via press release that they would only show episodes when they premiere, while reruns air on its sister network Nicktoons, and even gave the show a one-week premiere event. This doesn't excuse them from only airing the series on Sunday mornings.
    • As of 2018, the show's premieres got shafted completely to Nicktoons, with reruns on both TeenNick and even Nick Jr..
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Originally the show was aimed towards boys, but it changed demographics during development to instead target girls aged six and up. This only makes what happened to the show all the more ironic.
    • Drake City was also originally called Castletown, and it took place in world similar to ours with a The Magic Comes Back scenario.
    • According to Word Of God, the show's team fought to make a version of "The Princess and the Pirate" where Zarya and Kitty shared a kiss, but were denied it.
    • A Tazma figure was going to be added to the toyline but never got past prototype stage (presumably due to the line as a whole not faring well).
    • According to one interview, there was a plan to kill Arkayna, and the rest of the Mysticons would go to a different plane to bring her back. However, it was considered to be too dark, so the idea was scrapped.
    • According to Deven Mack on his Twitter, he had originally auditioned for the role of Gawayne, but was asked to try for Malvaron instead. Interestingly, Deven Mack has also mentioned that Malvaron was originally designed as a Caucasian character, but was redesigned as a Black character as a result of his casting - which in turn opened the door for casting Lili Francks as Auntie Yaga.
  • Word of Gay: Series creator, Sean Jara confirmed on Twitter shortly before the premiere of "The Princess and the Pirate" that Zarya and Kitty's relationship is meant to be seen as romantic.
  • Word of God: Says there may now be a chance of a series revival!
