Trivia / My Adventures with Superman

Go To

  • Acting for Two: Kari Wahlgren provides the voice of Ma Kent, the young Clark Kent, and the "Kryptonian Warrior" at the end of "Hearts of the Fathers".
  • Approval of God: Mark Waid, a comic writer who's already made his own contributions to the Superman mythos (and is given a shout-out in this show through Waid's Cafe, Lois' favorite coffee shop), loves the series and affectionately calls it a "home run".
  • Blooper: In "Let's Go to Ivo Tower, You Say", Clark places the "Flying Boy of Kansas" article in his jacket's left pocket, but it's in the right pocket when Lois discovers it later.
  • Channel Hop: The show was originally going to premiere on Cartoon Network, but after a long period of silence, ended up jumping ship to [adult swim], alongside Unicorn: Warriors Eternal. Granted, it technically airs on the same channel, but they are considered different networks (with very different age demographics) for ratings purposes.
  • Content Leak: Some production material including character model and description sheets and a few script pages were leaked online months before the first trailer was released.
  • Creator's Favorite: In the Superman Homepage interview, co-producer Josie Campbell really appreciated the show's takes on Dr. Ivo/Parasite, Livewire, The Brain, and Monsieur Mallah. Ivo, in particular, is in theme with Superman's historical battles with mad scientists with a modern Tech Bro twist.
  • Executive Meddling: In the Superman Homepage interview, co-producer Josie Campbell admitted that some executives wanted them to hold off on introducing Lex Luthor in Season One, encouraging them to dig deeper into Superman's rogue gallery. Luckily, the crew were already on the same page prior to this suggestion.
  • He Also Did: Character designer and comic book artist Kris Anka was attached to the series' early design development phase, responsible for the looks of Superman, Jor-El, Intergang, and Livewire. In the same year, he became notable for being the lead character designer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
  • Inspiration for the Work:
    • Once reviews came out comparing the series to Dragon Ball, multiple people who worked on the series cheekily came out to admit the influence. Showrunner Jake Wyatt also indulged in this fact, posting a crossover fanart sketch of Clark, Lois, and Jimmy in Akira Toriyama's style.
    • According to Jake Wyatt, the dynamic between Clark and Lois, along with Lois' characterization, was inspired by Vash and Meryl Stryfe from Trigun. This was in response to fanart by comickergirl playfully pointing the similarities in a crossover piece.
    • In the Superman Homepage interview, co-producer Josie Campbell cites how John Bryne's Superman run, being an introductory read for her, influenced keeping both Jonathan and Martha Kent alive. This was in contrast to Superman's early stories, or some adaptations, opting to kill one or both of them off in his adult years. Consistently nicknaming them "Ma and Pa Kent", even in the general scripts, was also another effect.
  • Late Export for You: The show began airing it's first season on October 20th, 2023 on both E4, and Channel 4's streaming service, in the UK, after the season had already finished it's initial airing in the US from July 7th to September 1st.
  • Meme Acknowledgement: In the Superman Homepage interview, co-producer Josie Campbell is aware of the internet's design comparisons between their version of Lois Lane and Luz Noceda. She finds it to be a happy coincidence, noting how their lead art director Jane Bak also worked on The Owl House. Furthermore, Campbell also enjoyed the riffing on Superman's Magical Girl Transformation Sequence, especially the ones that used the Taylor Swift's Superman song.
  • Out of Holiday Episode: "Hearts of the Fathers" is a Thanksgiving Episode, yet it aired in late August.
  • Playing Against Type:
  • Promoted Fanboy: In an interview with the Superman Homepage fan site, co-producer Josie Campbell admits her reverence for Superman: The Animated Series and Lois & Clark, which influenced the direction of doing a Superman series. She even went as far as to recommend others to watch S:TAS if they haven't already. Additionally, she's credited with a lot of the show's deep cuts, thanks to her experience writing for Comic Book Resources' DC section before her animation writing career. Hence, she brought in various comics into the writers' room that she grew up with, like John Byrne's Superman run.
  • Remake Cameo:
  • Role Reprise: Debra Wilson reprises her role of Amanda Waller from Batman: The Telltale Series.
  • Same Content, Different Rating: Or rather, "Same Content, Different Target Audience". The show is rated TV-PG, a rating it shares with a number of DC Comics cartoons that aired on Cartoon Network in the past, but it airs on Adult Swim.
  • Spoiled by the Cast List: Although never touched upon in the episode itself, the credits for "Hearts of the Fathers" finally confirm that the droid army was controlled by Brainiac, as voiced by Michael Emerson, though the intelligence being in service of "Nemesis Omega", and that character's identity (only being credited as "Kryptonian Warrior"), is the cliffhanger for Season 2.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Lana Lang was slated to appear at some point in Season 1 and voiced by Jeannie Tirado, however, she has yet to appear by the season's end.
    • This show was originally planned to air on Cartoon Network, but instead it aired on Adult Swim.
  • Working Title: As shown in this piece of concept art, the series was originally titled Superman: Up and Away.
