Trivia / Muv-Luv Alternative

Go To

  • The Other Darrin: The anime's cast is very different from the visual novels, due to the staff wanting for the franchise to "move forward" for the future. The only character not affected so far is Paul Radhabinod, still voiced in the anime by Norio Wakamoto as was in the visual novels, and (partially) Akira Isumi, who was voiced by Emi Motoi in the VN and Inheritance, but retains Yoshino Nanjo as her VA from the Kimi ga Ita Kisetsu remake.
  • Schedule Slip: Extra, Unlimited and Alternative were supposed to be released together, but Alternative got delayed for three years due to various problems, thus the Japanese meme "Oruta mada~?" ("Is Alternative here yet~?").
  • What Could Have Been: Many aspects of the story of Alternative were changed or minimized in response to events that happened over the course of the game's delayed development:
    • The game itself was conceived as the New Game Plus true ending to Unlimited, but the scope of the story and accompanying production issues led to it becoming a separate title.
    • The 12/5 Incident would have had segments from the Rebel's point of view but in response to the 2005 London Bombings they were cut out of fear the game would have been seen as promoting terrorism. The manga Adaptation Expansion inserts such segments from the points of view of Captain Sagiri and his second-in-command.
    • The nationalistic elements were toned down in general after anti-Japanese demonstrations across Asia in 2005, out of concern the game would be seen as propaganda.
    • Operation 21st's aftermath would have involved a tsunami devastating Honshu at Niigata, but after an earthquake in 2004 all explicit mentions were cut. Kashiwagi's original fate would have been detonating a supply ship packed with S-11 explosives to (partially) counteract this tsunami.
