Trivia / Mushroom Kingdom Fusion

Go To

  • Development Hell: The game's ambitiousness proved to be too much, as it was announced to be cancelled by Eddy on October 20th, 2013. It ended up being Un-Cancelled, but it's still not being released with all of its planned content.
  • Dummied Out: In v0.8 onwards, World 0 cannot be accessed, most likely to keep all content related to it confidential.
  • Exiled from Continuity: If you're going to make a contribution to MKF, make sure that your ideas for characters, levels, and such aren't from a game made 2013 or later (2008 is a soft cutoff date as well). Music's fine, though.
  • He Also Did: Lead developer The Dookster is also part of the SiIvaGunner team.
  • Permanent Placeholder: The original plan was for the paths to the world exits to open up once you've cleared the previous world. Before that functionality was implemented, you had to hit a black !-block to open the path. After it was decided to make the game more open, these blocks were kept. They were later given a rainbow colored coat of paint and a fancy new effect when activated.
  • Promoted Fanboy: Most of the development team. The most notable ones would be Obreck and LarsLuron, who have coded quite a bit of the project. The current project lead, The Dookster, also started off as a fan.
  • Recycled Set: Many levels that were originally remakes of official levels were replaced in more recent versions with levels from Super Mario Fusion Revival.
  • Schedule Slip: To the point where it's hard to figure out what's still in the game anymore.
    • For the longest time the devs themselves didn't know, with communication between them being practically non-existent. Once the team got straightened out (with dead and useless developers being demoted), they hold regular meetings. It's a wonder the project didn't collapse beforehand.
  • What Could Have Been: With how long the game has been in development, it's only natural several plans fell through.
    • The final world was originally gonna contain the so called "nightmare levels", where you were forced to play a specific character.
    • Originally, the main villain was an entity by the name of "Legion". He had a group of minions called "Legion's Finest" that you'd encounter at various points during the game. Legion and most of his Finest were scrapped. The only ones who remain were the Siren and the Necromancer (who were already in the game at that point), and the Fusionist who was promoted to main villain.
    • The game originally had a bonus world called The Minus World, where you'd find levels based on games not featured elsewhere in the game. This world was eventually scrapped and it's levels were placed in different worlds.
    • Several characters were planned for the game but were either cut or scrapped. Among these characters were Kirby, Meta Knight, R.O.B., Amy Rose and an original character named Agent M.
    • The original World Boss for Gehenna was going to be Beauty, its goddess and ruler corrupted by a mask known as Vanity. She was scrapped, with The Fusionist planned to take her place as the world boss. Then, after The Fusionist's role in the plot got expanded, he was swapped out in favor of Cacobirdo, one of his creations.
    • The original World Boss for Edge of Beyond was seemingly going to be 343 Guilty Spark, who appears in the level called The Library. For unknown reasons, the Zeta Metroid became the World Boss instead.
  • Why Fandom Can't Have Nice Things: A user on the Discord had a meltdown over Shantae not getting in, which led to any later discussion of new character additions to be forbidden until the release of 1.0.
