Trivia / Mr. Men and Little Miss

Go To

  • Acting for Two:
    • Gordon Peters as the Mr. Men, male human characters and primary narration for the UK dub.
    • Jill Shilling as the Little Misses, female human characters and children for the UK dub.
    • Geoffrey Palmer voices both the narrator and Father Christmas/Santa Claus in The Christmas Letter.
    • On many occasions, even the North American dub is not immune to this trope, despite having more voice actors and actresses than the original U.K. dub.
  • Actor Allusion:
    • Gordon Peters, a talented English actor and comedian, appeared as minor roles in live action British sitcoms prior, such as Dad's Army and Are You Being Served?.
    • Jill Shilling, got her start in the Bananaman cartoon series as various minor characters, prior to doing voiceover work as the Little Misses in Christmas Rescue and Alphabet Hunt.
  • Crossdressing Voices:
    • Jill Shilling provides voices for the male human children in the UK dub.
    • In the US dub, Mr. Muddle is the only Mr. Man to be voiced by one of the female voice cast.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: The North American version of this show produced by Summit Media, which had live-action segments based on a random theme, is also this. It never got released to VHS. As of July 2021, a couple of recorded full episodes of the American dub are available online.
    • However, in March of 2022, more VHS tapes containing the episodes were found (albeit in poor quality).
    • In April of 2023, 15 more episodes were found. As a result, only 79 episodes with the American dub soundtrack survived complete (existing alongside the UK dub).
    • Four months later in August of 2023, a tape containing five full episodes and one episode that was a third incomplete was found (and apparently in mostly mint condition for being recorded 2 1/2 decades ago). As fourteen out of the seventeen cartoons were already uploaded, that means three more cartoons of the US dub were found on the tape. This brings the total to 82 episodes of the US dub soundtrack that survived complete (existing alongside the original UK dub).
  • Same Language Dub: While the original series was a French-British co-production, there was a dub that was done in Canada featuring the voices of Len Carlson, Alyson Court, Neil Crone, Catherine Disher, Judy Marshak, and Ron Rubin.
    • In contrast to the original British versions, which were pre-recorded prior to animation, the Canadian dub was done post-sync. As a result, there were minor changes from British to American and/or ad-libs that weren't present in the original.
  • Screwed by the Network: The North American version was cancelled around 2000 in the USA, and was cancelled again by Cartoon Network when Small World was removed from television in 2001.
  • Similarly Named Works: The name of the American version of the show, the Mr. Men Show, would end up being the name that the 2008 reboot used.
  • Uncredited Role: Gordon Peters and Jill Shilling were not credited as the voice actors in the original series. They are, however, credited in The Christmas Letter, and the voice cast for the North American dub is credited there.
  • What Could Have Been: The show was originally going to be different than it became in the final product. According to Eryk Casemiro, he had an idea of doing a comedy sketch show of the characters for Broadway Video as Lorne Michaels wanted a kid show in his library, but the Hargreaves and Michaels couldn't get along and the project was scrapped. Although Casemiro would later bring this idea back in the 2000s after the Mr. Men rights were sold to Chorion which later become the 2008 reboot The Mr. Men Show.
