Trivia / Mongrels

Go To

  • Crossdressing Voices: Kieran, the runt of the litter, is voiced by Ruth Bratt.
  • Distanced from Current Events: Surprisingly for this show, but it was due to unforeseen consequences. During the second season's initial run on BBC Three, episode 5 was skipped over to play the next episodes before it, most likely due to the very recent death of beloved Welsh football manager Gary Speed.
  • Fake Nationality: Whoever voiced "David Schwimmer" is clearly not American. Ironically, it actually sounds like a bad Ray Romano impression. Also, Ruth Bratt (Koon-Yi from Series 2 Episode 8) is not Siamese/Thai.
  • Money, Dear Boy: Eamonn Holmes admits he didn't look at the script before agreeing to appear, just the fee (though that is pretty standard for Holmes as he'd be the first to admit!)
  • Parody Assistance: Richard O'Brien does the voice of the Riff Raff Expy Dog in the Rocky Horror Picture Show parody from the second episode of season two.
  • Referenced by...: Nelson and Marion were two of the many puppets brought together for Children in Need 2021, to cover Jefferson Starship ’s “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now”.
  • What Could Have Been: The show was originally pitched as "We Are Mongrels" and the name was still in use for the pilot. Nelson was also more bold, brash, and more like Vince judging by the pitch reel. He even seemed to be voiced by Paul Kaye. Kali is not the destructive pigeon she is in the final series. Lastly, the humans may have originally been intended to be puppets as well.
    • The pilot had a suicidal chicken (voiced by Ruth Bratt) as a sixth member, Marion was voiced by Ray Panthaki and even had a different design. Destiny herself also had a different design.
