Trivia / Momodora

  • Dummied Out:
    • There's a bunch of unused graphics in Momodora III's folders, including:
      • Leftovers from Momo II.
      • Unused background details, such as a redrawn statue for Kaho.
      • Unused enemies like an alien, a baby lizard, a lizard knight and a shrine maiden.
      • Sprites for a centipede woman who seems to be the one who is dead during the events of the game.
      • Unused sprites for Dora from before the events of Momodora II.
      • Dialogue mugshots for the spider seen in level 1 and the fish boss from level 2. The spider reappears in Reverie and is able to talk, but that game doesn't use mugshots in the text boxes.
      • A dialogue mugshot for a "priest" character who looks like Poetelia. Oddly enough, there's a sprite for her named "Kath". The next game has a very different character named Cath.
      • Two dialogue mugshots for a girl with flowers on her hair who isn't seen at all through the game but does have unused files on the enemy sprites folder.
      • Sprites and a dialogue mugshot for a blue fairy. You can summon her as a secret attack in Reverie, but not here.
    • The data for Reverie still has the graphics from when the game was just called Momodora IV.
  • Follow the Leader:
    • The first game has gameplay and graphics very similar to that of Cave Story. The next two sequels dropped the gunplay, but the characteristic chibi style that also inspired the likes of Underside and a prototype of Iconoclasts remained.
    • Reverie takes after the Dark Souls series instead with its new combat mechanics, gloomy mood and world background given by item descriptions.
  • What Could Have Been: Momodora V was meant to be a 3D third-person action game with Momo as the heroine. The first trailer was met with such backlash that the project ended up cancelled in favor of Minoria, a 2D game that plays like Reverie.
  • Working Title:
    • "Moonchild" for Momodora 1.
    • "Momodora IV" for Reverie in the Moonlight.
