- Bad Export for You: The only version officially released outside of Asia, the GBA version, is generally considered to be a Porting Disaster.
- Keep Circulating the Tapes: Even in Japan, the original Super Famicom version is hard to come by. Its only official rerelease to date is on the pricey Asia-exclusive Capcom Retro Station, where it is untranslated (unlike the other Mega Man games on the system).
- Even the GBA version is lost as of March 2023, the month the Wii U eShop closed.
- No Export for You: The original Super Famicom version was never brought overseas since it was released in 1998, over a year after the North American release of the Nintendo 64.
- Promoted Fanboy: The game's six original Robot Masters were all designed by Comic BomBom Rockman mangakas: Hitoshi Ariga made Burner Man and Dynamo Man, Yoshihiro Iwamoto made Ground Man and Magic Man, and Kōji Izuki (who created a Mega Man 8 manga) made Cold Man and Pirate Man.
- Working Title: At some point, the game was called Rockman 8.5, and a reference to this title still exists in the final game's coding.
