- Actor-Inspired Element: A deleted scene had Newt telling Thomas that he's the reason they're free, which was Thomas Brodie Sangster's idea.
- Billing Displacement: Nathalie Emmanuel is billed prominently, yet Harriet doesn't appear until well over halfway into the film.
- Dawson Casting: Averted with the casting of Jacob Lofland and Katherine McNamara who were both roughly 18 at the time of filming. Played straight with the rest, especially 30-year old Rosa Salazar as Brenda.
- Descended Creator: In the Latin Spanish dub, Roberto Granados was the mixing supervisor as well as the voice of Riley.
- Fake American: Besides the returning ones from the first film, there's Nathalie Emmanuel (British) as Harriet and Barry Pepper (Canadian) as Vince. Oddly, the Irish Aiden Gillen gets to keep his accent.
- Hypothetical Casting: Adelaide Kane was a popular fan cast for Brenda, but apparently had a schedule conflict that meant she couldn't take the role.
- Typecasting: Aiden Gillen at the height of his typecasting as slimy villains like Littlefinger and John Boy.
- You Sound Familiar: In the Latin Spanish dub, Aris is voiced by Bruno Coronel, who previously dubbed Jeff in The Maze Runner (2014).
