• Ascended Fanon: Yoshizumi originally didn't intend for Ginta and Arimi to actually get together, but fan letters gave her the idea. Additionally, it's said that the "Ginta crushes on crossdressing Yuu" scene was inspired by some Yuu/Ginta fanarts she saw around.
• Directed by Cast Member: Besides directing the English dub, Jennifer Wagner and Olivia Venegas have minor appearances as Miki's tennis-playing schoolmates that she coaches while substituting for Ryōko in episode 74.
• God-Created Canon Foreigner: All major American characters in the anime adaptation along with Anju Kitahara were all happily created by Wataru Yoshizumi herself (and on her own terms, no less) based on the request from the animation staff to further develop Miki and Yuu's characterizations. The only disappointment Yoshizumi had for the anime was Jinny's lack of style variety, due to the anime staff not wanting to pull the effort in giving her the variety of hairstyles nor clothing styles Yoshizumi wholeheartedly designed for her.
• Portmanteau Series Nickname: On a few occasions in promotional material and frequently by fans, the series in Japanese is referred to as Mamare.
• What Could Have Been:
  • The original plan for the series, according to Yoshizumi herself, was to have Yuu and Miki find out they were really blood siblings, break up, and find love with other people (Miki with Ginta, and Yuu with Meiko after Namura leaves town). When she put this idea through to her editor the response was basically "You crazy, woman? The readers love Yuu and Miki as a couple!", and thus the two characters find out they were Not Blood Siblings.
  • An even earlier plan was to have each of four main characters (Miki, Yuu, Meiko, and Ginta) Gender Flipped, so it was originally going to be a boy with Miki's angst and drama experiences and a Genki Girl that eventually became Yuu. Yoshizumi changed it when the editors told her that male protagonists of shoujo manga tended to be weak and unlikable.
  • Yoshizumi admits in her free talk that she had such a hard time coming up with a design for Tsutomu Rokutanda that, in her drafts, his head was just a sphere with the kanji for "six" (the "roku" in "Rokutanda") standing in for a face. She included a couple explanatory doodles, including a profile where you see the kanji also from the side. She grew so used to thinking of him that way that she honestly considered having that be his final design in the finished product, but decided a Non-Standard Character Design would be a little too bold.
  • Apparently, during the very late nineties/early 00's some Mexican VA's (specially Luis Daniel Ramírez, who's a fan of the series) wanted to have the Latin-American dub of the series done in Mexico. However Mexico was (and in some ways still is) a rather conservative society even by Latin-American standards and the whole Meiko x Namura deal would've probably caused LOTS of objections, so the idea never really took off. The Latin-American Spanish dub was done in Chile in 2004 instead.
• Written by Cast Member: Tony Oliver was one of the English dub's ADR screenwriters, as well as the voices of Bill Matheson and Gen Kitahara.

  • Mami Matsui voiced Gastman in the film and Eddie in the TV series.
  • Yuko Nagashima voiced Gastman Alpha in the film and Chigusa in the TV series.
  • The late Shiho Niiyama voiced Gastman Zeta in the film and Doris in the TV series.
