Trivia / Mandy Moore

Go To

  • Actor-Inspired Element:
    • She was a fan of Switchfoot and persuaded producers of A Walk to Remember to use some of their music in the film.
    • For How To Deal she felt her character should have a short haircut. Producers weren't happy but they came up with a compromise; she would wear hair extensions for the first half and then get an Important Haircut.
  • Creator Backlash: Mandy's first two albums, So Real and her self-titled album, were late-'90s/very-early-'00s bubblegum pop recorded to capitalize on the popularity of Britney Spears. Nowadays, Moore is a folksy indie-pop singer who actually writes her own music, and has completely disowned her days as a Teen Idol. She went so far as to offer refunds to everybody who bought her first two albums, starting with the hosts of the radio show where she made that announcement. She seems to have softened on this, as she celebrated the 20th anniversary of "Candy" in 2019 warmly.
  • Creator Breakdown:
    • Wild Hope seems to come from a horrific break up for her.
    • Silver Landings was released after an eleven-year musically inactive period following Amanda Leigh (2009), in which Mandy had divorced her husband Ryan Adams, whom she claims emotionally abused her during her marriage and berated and discouraged her from releasing music. Mandy would marry Taylor Goldsmith, leader of the band Dawes, who collaborated with Mandy and would give her the morale to return to music and songwriting.
  • Dye Hard: Is naturally blonde, as seen in her earlier pop work, but has been brunette since A Walk to Remember.
  • Dawson Casting: Averted for The Princess Diaries and A Walk to Remember, as she was still a teenager.
  • Dyeing for Your Art: Cut her hair short for the films Try Seventeen and How To Deal.
  • Follow the Leader: was cast in the Idol Singer mold so popular in the late 90s, just in time to catch the Hype Backlash.
  • The Other Darrin: She voiced Aerith in Kingdom Hearts. Mena Suvari replaced her for Kingdom Hearts II and Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, and was in turn replaced by Andrea Bowen for Kingdom Hearts III: Re𝄌Mind as well as the remainder of the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII. By the time Kingdom Hearts III was in production, her role as Rapunzel also ends up in this trope, as she was voiced by Kelsey Lansdowne, for unknown reasons.
  • The Other Marty: She filmed scenes playing Jenny in the film Cursed but she was replaced with Mya.
  • Playing Against Type: In The Princess Diaries she plays the Alpha Bitch.
  • Promoted Fangirl: Wanted to voice a Disney character from a young age. Needless to say she was ecstatic when she was cast as Rapunzel in Tangled.
  • Real-Life Relative: One of her brothers appears in her video for "Candy".
  • Romance on the Set: She appeared on two episodes of Scrubs while she was dating Zach Braff.
